GOP Demands Resignation of Secret Service Director After Trump Attack

Republicans are drawing a line in the sand, demanding Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle’s resignation after the apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Capitol Hill is in an uproar as GOP lawmakers demand accountability and discipline, denouncing the agency’s failure to protect Trump at a Pennsylvania rally.

In a show of true Republican resolve, some representatives are ready to wield the budgetary axe to force Cheatle out. Independent investigations and high-profile congressional hearings are looming on the horizon. Cheatle, however, remains defiant, claiming she is steadfast in her position. She even went on ABC News, asserting she would not step down but did admit that ultimate responsibility lies with her.

Rep. Cory Mills of Florida isn’t buying Cheatle’s bravado. He’s ready to slash her salary to a mere dollar if she doesn’t tender her resignation. Mills isn’t mincing words, telling Real America’s Voice and Speaker Johnson he’s set on heading a commission to investigate without interference from the “corrupt deep state” FBI. Mills has hefty support from Colorado’s Rep. Lauren Boebert, who introduced a bill to cut all federal funding for Cheatle’s pay. She lambasted the agency’s incompetence, vowing to hold Cheatle accountable and signaling an uphill battle for the embattled director.

Georgia’s own Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, ever the Trump ally, has become a vocal critic calling for Cheatle’s immediate resignation. She blames not only Cheatle but also Secretary Mayorkas, whom she had previously targeted for impeachment. Greene’s social media blitz emphasizes the urgency and determination to see Cheatle face the Oversight Committee next Monday.

Joining the bravo squad is none other than Elon Musk, the tech billionaire who’s never shied away from voicing his opinions. Musk’s call for the resignation of both the head of the Secret Service and the leader of Trump’s security detail echoed early and widely through social media.

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, always ready for a good fight, isn’t stopping at Cheatle. He’s demanding Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas hit the exit door too. The Senate’s firebrand Sen. Josh Hawley declared the security lapse the most significant since JFK’s assassination, placing it in a historic context that magnifies the severity of the incident.

It’s a full-court press by the GOP, charging forward with the kind of ferocity that’s needed when one of their key figures is placed in harm’s way. The message is clear: There’s no room for failure when it comes to protecting a former President.
