The bill is particularly important to her due to her father’s battle with addiction, which was exacerbated by medication for Parkinson’s disease, leading to significant financial and emotional hardship for her family.
The POINTS Act proposes using excise tax revenue to fund support for those affected by gambling addiction, without introducing new taxes. This measure is crucial as gambling has become increasingly accessible, especially among younger populations. Hchin has stated that more than 20 million Americans are affected by gambling addiction, and the rise of online gambling and sports betting means that the problem is only expected to grow. By targeting rural communities, veterans, youths, and tribal groups, Hchin hopes the legislation will provide necessary resources for treatment and awareness.
With bipartisan support and significant backing from over 40 organizations, Congresswoman Hchin believes the POINTS Act has the potential to make a real difference.
