GOP Slams CBS for $15M Chinese Super Bowl Ads

In a bold move that puts American values first, a coalition of GOP lawmakers is demanding that Paramount Global and CBS reject Super Bowl ads from a Chinese company suspected of using forced labor. These tenacious Republicans, led by the fierce West Virginia Rep. Carol Miller, have sent a letter exclusively obtained by the Daily Caller to the network, urging them to block the reported $15 million worth of ads planned by Temu during the highly anticipated Super Bowl broadcast on Feb. 11.

According to the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, Temu lacks any system to ensure compliance with the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, giving lawmakers strong reason to believe that the company utilizes forced labor. It is simply outrageous that the Chinese Communist Party would seek to profit off the American people while subjecting Uyghur individuals to slave labor. Rep. Miller eloquently noted, “Allowing Temu to air these ads during the most popular American sporting event would effectively be an endorsement of what the CCP stands for.” CBS must join the Republican lawmakers in taking a stand against this horrific labor practice.

Paramount Global, however, has disappointingly declined to comment on this matter. Shouldn’t they have a clear position on the use of forced labor in the production of products that they promote? It is imperative for them to take a stance grounded in human rights and avoid contributing to the profits of companies like Temu.

In addition to concerns about forced labor, the House Select Committee uncovered unsettling information about Temu’s parent company, PDD Holdings. This company, through its subsidiary Pindoudou, has been engaging in substantial trademark counterfeiting and copyright piracy. It is utterly disgraceful that such a company would be allowed to advertise during a prestigious event like the Super Bowl, tarnishing the integrity of the American market.

The GOP lawmakers’ efforts to expose Temu’s problematic practices are commendable. They rightly highlight that the Super Bowl is a platform that reaches millions of Americans, and it would be deeply troubling to use a cherished American sporting event to showcase products made through unethical means. We should all be grateful for these brave conservative representatives who are fighting against the Chinese Communist Party’s deceitful tactics.

Unsurprisingly, CBS has reportedly been reaching out to other lawmakers in an attempt to dissuade them from joining Rep. Miller’s letter. It is disheartening to see a media company prioritize profits over the ethical concerns raised by these Republican lawmakers. CBS should remember that it has a responsibility to uphold American values and should strongly consider the potential repercussions of featuring ads from companies involved in forced labor.

Rep. Miller, along with other dedicated conservatives such as Florida Rep. Byron Donalds and Ohio Rep. Mike Carey, has made a forceful case in their letter. By appealing to Paramount Global and CBS not to air Temu’s commercials, they are aiming to protect American interests and take a stand against the Chinese Communist Party. It is a plea for the home team, and we must hope that their message is heard loud and clear. The Super Bowl should be a celebration of American sportsmanship and excellence, not a showcase for companies involved in unethical practices.
