In a stunning display of disregard for the Constitution and the rights of law-abiding citizens, Democratic Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico has issued a 30-day ban on concealed and open carry of firearms in Albuquerque. And in a recent interview with CNN, she not only defended her brazen decree but also accused opponents of having no plan to combat so-called “gun violence.”
Grisham’s arrogance knows no bounds as she attempts to shift blame onto the NRA, claiming that she is focused on everyone’s constitutional rights, not just those the NRA deems important. But what about the rights of responsible gun owners? What about their right to protect themselves and their loved ones? Grisham conveniently brushes aside these concerns in her quest for political points.

Even members of her own party are not on board with her extreme measures. Democratic New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez openly criticized Grisham’s ban, stating that not only does he believe it is ineffective in improving public safety, but he also believes it violates the Constitution. It’s a shame that Grisham is so blinded by her desire to trample on the rights of citizens that she ignores the concerns of her own party members.
But perhaps the most damning evidence against Grisham’s ban is the fact that it has done nothing to curb crime. Instead of addressing the root causes of violence and focusing on enforcing existing laws, she has chosen to target law-abiding citizens who want nothing more than to exercise their Second Amendment rights. It’s clear that her actions are driven more by political grandstanding than by a genuine concern for public safety.
Unsurprisingly, the National Association for Gun Rights has taken legal action against Grisham’s egregious measure. And they are right to do so. We cannot allow politicians like Grisham to trample on our rights and ignore the very real threats to our safety. It’s time for us to stand up against these power-hungry politicians and fight for our Constitutionally protected freedoms. Grisham may think she can flaunt the Constitution, but she is sorely mistaken. The people will not stand for it, and we will ensure that her overreach is met with the force of the law.
