Recently, a bill has garnered attention for its proposed cuts to vital social programs such as healthcare for the poorest among us. At the same time, it allocated a substantial portion of its budget to ICE for enhanced deportation efforts, as part of a broader $170 billion allocation for immigration enforcement and detention, which also includes funding for border walls. This spending overshadows the budgets for both the FBI and the federal prison system combined. This is a glaring contradiction that no reasonable person should overlook.
While the idea of deporting illegal immigrants may not sit well with everyone, one must acknowledge the need to secure the border. America prides itself on being a nation of laws, and those laws must be upheld. The reality is that illegal immigration strains our resources, from healthcare to welfare programs. The essence of the argument is simple: if an individual is capable of working, they should not rely on government assistance. There has to be a work requirement; after all, hard work should be valued, not penalized.
