It seems that former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie have both taken leaves of their senses. One might’ve expected Nikki Haley to be the one in desperate need of a reality check to avoid an utter political disaster, but now it appears Chris Christie is in the same boat. It’s a real head-scratcher why either of them would even consider a presidential run as an independent candidate.

Let’s not beat around the bush here – independent candidates have as much chance of winning the White House as a snowball has in a hot oven. Take a look at history – show me one independent candidate who has prevailed in the race for the presidency. You can’t, can you? Ross Perot was the closest, and even he couldn’t pull it off. Maybe Christie is just trying to pull a kamikaze mission to take down another potential Trump presidency.
Last summer, Christie himself called the idea of a third-party run a “fool’s errand,” and now he’s singing a different tune with No Labels backing him. Even Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, a wishy-washy conservative Democrat, is toying with the idea of a White House bid. It’s clear that they’re both grasping at straws.
Christie’s disdain for the former president was on full display during the GOP debates. It’s no secret that he wants to put an end to the Trump era in American politics, but the Republican voters don’t buy it. It wouldn’t come as a shock if Christie’s main goal is to torpedo Trump’s chances. The problem is that Trump still has a solid hold on his base, and even Republicans who aren’t crazy about him might still side with him if the economy remains in rocky waters.
It’s just not realistic. As improbable as it sounds, replacing Biden on the Democratic ticket is a more conceivable scenario than Christie or Manchin actually making a viable run for the presidency. It’s time for these two to come back down to earth and face reality.
