Harris Throws Lavish Hip-Hop Bash Amid National Crisis

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the genre, Vice President Kamala Harris hosted a party at her residence on Saturday. The occasion commemorated the beginning of hip-hop, which occurred during a block party in the Bronx in 1973 when DJ Kool Herc scratched his two record players and invented an entirely new sound. Harris, who is known for quoting legends, used Chuck D's statement that "rap is black America's CNN" to highlight the importance of hip-hop in society.

Naturally, a guest list full of A-level celebrities is necessary for this event to be successful. Along with comedian Deon Cole and Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr., attendees included musicians Common, D-Nice, Omarion, Jeezy, MC Lyte, Roxanne Shante, and more. The additional 400 visitors who were fortunate enough to receive an invitation should also not be forgotten.

However, the most noteworthy aspect of this event was that it was the first of its type at the vice presidential mansion. As when she hosted a drag queen in costume, Harris is known for breaking down barriers and arranging unconventional events. Whether you share her political views or not, you can't deny that she knows how to throw a good party.

Now, some could counter that the vice president has more important things to accomplish than host parties honoring hip-hop culture at her residence. They might even be correct. However, it's in these times that we are reminded of the importance of music and how it can unite people. It serves as a reminder that hip-hop is more than just a style of music and that it is actually a cultural movement that has had a significant influence on American society.

In order to commemorate hip-hop's contributions to our lives' inventiveness and diversity, let's pause for a bit to do a little dancing. Hip-hop is, after all, the culture of America, as Harris said. Who knows, perhaps the vice president will have a different kind of celebration in the near future. Country music is also reportedly quite popular.
