Governor Kathy Hochul of New York seems to be waking up to reality, borrowing a key policy from none other than Donald Trump. She’s riding the coattails of Trump’s no-tax-on-tips initiative, acting like she’s concocted some genius plan. But let’s be honest, this is sheer mimicry following the significant backlash she faced from New York’s working class. Unfortunately for Hochul, they’re not fooled by this sudden act of generosity.
It’s astounding how liberals, like Hochul, consistently sell themselves as champions of the middle class yet drag their feet when it comes to policies that actually relieve financial burdens. Hochul had to be dragged to this point by angry New Yorkers, despite her previous reluctance to adopt these Trump-era ideas. Service industry workers literally cried out for relief, highlighting the injustice of taxing their hard-earned tips, while Hochul sat on her hands.

Now, she’s clumsily attempting a political U-turn. Her belated embrace of the no-tax-on-tips policy is an attempt to patch the gaping holes in her re-election campaign. The hypocrisy is staggering—boasting about a new tax relief plan while eyeing potential tax hikes to fund New York City’s latest mayor’s big, socialist dreams. Talk about two-sided politics!
It’s important to recognize the courage of those like Bruce Blakeman, who voiced firm opposition and took a principled stand on this issue. They’ll never get the credit, but it’s fighters like Bruce who drive these changes. The Republicans have been pressing for these tax breaks, signaling what truly matters—a fair tax system that doesn’t penalize those working to make ends meet.
As Hochul continues to try to please everyone, including the radical elements within her own party, New Yorkers should question her sincerity and competence. Will she stick with these newfound policies once re-election is secured, or is this just another empty promise intended to win votes? The people deserve a leader who doesn’t flip-flop based on political convenience but stands firm for what’s right.
