In a surprising turn of events, it has come to light that there exists a photograph of Hunter Biden taken following his court appearance for a plea deal that did not unfold as expected. Curiously, the Justice Department has yet to disclose this mugshot to the general public, sparking allegations of bias.
In contrast, former President Trump, a prominent adversary of President Biden and a potential contender for the 2024 elections, had his own mugshot widely disseminated after being indicted just last month. This discrepancy further fans the flames of Trump's allegations that the Department of Justice has been used as a political weapon.
The question arises: why is Hunter's mugshot being withheld? According to a spokesperson from the Department of Justice, a federal policy prohibits the release of defendant photographs in federal court cases. This explanation appears convenient, doesn't it?
Meanwhile, Trump has faced indictment on four occasions by prosecutors aligned with the Democratic party, which Biden represents. He characterizes it as a coordinated attack by a justice system biased in favor of Democrats, including Joe Biden and his son. It's not difficult to see why he might feel this way. While Hunter appeared to be on the verge of a lenient plea deal, Trump faced charges in state court and had his mugshot widely circulated. The disparity is striking.
Yet, it appears that Special Counsel David Weiss is striving to maintain fairness. He rejected Hunter's request to attend his arraignment via video, insisting that Hunter must appear in person to preserve public confidence. Weiss even drew a comparison between Hunter's situation and Trump's. It's a reassuring sign of an effort to uphold fairness.
Nevertheless, until that elusive mugshot is made public, doubts will likely persist. In essence, it seems as though the Biden family may be perceived as exempt from the law, which is a disconcerting image for all parties involved.
