Hunter Biden is facing legal troubles as he gears up for his trial on gun-related charges as well as an impending trial for tax evasion. Many conservatives believe that the Justice Department has given Hunter Biden lenient treatment and did not pursue cases against him related to alleged illegal foreign lobbying, sex trafficking, lying to Congress, or campaign finance violations. The Washington Examiner highlighted the lack of charges brought against Hunter Biden for his involvement in lobbying for foreign entities under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) while his father was vice president. There are also concerns about the handling of the investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax issues and his alleged involvement in sex trafficking and campaign finance violations.

Republicans feel that the federal investigation into Hunter Biden did not result in the accountability he deserved for his actions while his father was in power. They argue that Hunter Biden should have faced consequences for his dealings with entities in Ukraine and China, failure to comply with FARA requirements, and allegations of sex trafficking and campaign finance violations. Some conservatives have criticized the former Delaware U.S. Attorney, David Weiss, for allegedly trying to minimize the case against Hunter Biden and avoid scrutiny of President Joe Biden’s involvement in his son’s activities.
The investigation into Hunter Biden’s alleged FARA violations, particularly his ties to Ukrainian energy company Burisma, has been a point of contention. IRS whistleblowers have claimed that the Justice Department effectively shut down the investigation into Hunter Biden’s alleged illegal foreign lobbying. They also raised concerns about the handling of the case, including the refusal to partner on an indictment for Hunter Biden and delays that allowed the statute of limitations to expire on certain alleged offenses.
There are also questions surrounding the handling of the Mann Act violations and campaign finance issues related to Hunter Biden. Despite evidence of potential violations, Hunter Biden has not faced charges for his conduct related to prostitution or the payments made by his friend and lawyer to settle his tax bills ahead of the 2020 election. Additionally, Hunter Biden has been accused of committing perjury during a deposition to the House, but to date, neither he nor his associates have faced charges for that conduct.
Conservatives have raised concerns about the Justice Department’s handling of the investigation into Hunter Biden, suggesting that there may have been a deliberate effort to avoid pursuing certain cases that could have implications for President Joe Biden. The perceived leniency shown towards Hunter Biden in the face of serious allegations has fueled mistrust among many conservative observers, who question whether the Biden family has received preferential treatment from the Justice Department.
