His attorney, William Jeffress, wasted no time in attributing the indictment to the political motivations of MAGA Republicans. According to Jeffress, these charges were deemed unwarranted just six weeks ago, following a thorough investigation lasting five years. He further claimed that while the evidence has remained the same, the law has changed, along with the improper interference by MAGA Republicans.
However, it is worth noting that a federal appeals court’s decision regarding drug use and firearm possession does not apply to Delaware, where the case is being held. Jeffress cited this decision to support his argument against the gun indictment. Additionally, he reiterated Hunter Biden’s previous plea deal with prosecutors, which involved admitting to gun and tax charges. The deal required him to pay over $2 million in taxes on foreign income and complete a diversion program and probation, after which the gun offense would be expunged.

Unfortunately for the Bidens, the plea deal fell apart under the scrutiny of U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika. She raised concerns about an immunity provision and whether it could shield Hunter Biden from other tax crimes. However, Jeffress remains adamant that the agreement is still valid and intends to challenge the charges in court.
