The Justice Department’s refusal to release Hunter Biden’s mugshot is only adding fuel to the fire of President Trump’s claims that the Department of Justice is biased and has been weaponized against him. It’s no secret that Trump and Biden have a long-standing rivalry, and with Trump’s mugshot being released following his indictment in Georgia, the double standard is hard to ignore.
Hunter Biden’s mugshot was taken when he appeared in court for a plea deal gone wrong. His lawyer, Abbe Lowell, mentioned in a letter that Hunter’s mugshot was taken as part of the usual procedures at the courthouse. However, the requested release of the mugshot was denied, citing federal policy that prohibits the release of defendants’ post-arrest imagery.
On the other hand, Trump’s mugshot was released to the public after his indictment in Georgia. Trump has been indicted four times by three different prosecutors aligned with the Democratic Party, which only adds to his claims of a coordinated attack by a biased justice system. Trump and other Republicans have dismissed Hunter Biden’s current charges as a distraction from more serious allegations involving the Biden family’s business deals.
Special Counsel David Weiss, who is overseeing the investigation into Hunter Biden, denied Lowell’s request for Hunter to appear at his arraignment over video, insisting that he must appear in person to uphold public trust. Weiss even compared Hunter’s situation to Trump’s. However, unless Hunter’s mugshot is released, skepticism will continue to grow regarding equal treatment under the law.
In the end, the lack of transparency regarding Hunter Biden’s mugshot raises questions about the Department of Justice’s integrity. If the justice system wants to maintain the trust of the American people, it should apply the same standards consistently, regardless of political affiliation. Unfortunately, it seems that partisan biases may be at play once again. #ProTrump
