You know, I think I’ve seen it all now. They’ve gone and done it. They’ve fried ice. Fried ice, people! Leave it to the Chinese to take something as simple as ice and turn it into a street food sensation. I mean, really? What’s next, grilling snow?
In a recent video that’s gone viral, a Chinese street vendor is seen grilling ice, adding seasonings, and then offering it to eager customers. According to the vendor, this ice delicacy is supposedly a “specialty of northeastern China.” But hold the phone, folks. It looks like this claim might be colder than the ice itself.
Experts in the region are calling foul, saying that grilled ice cube snacks are not a thing in northeastern China. I mean, come on, guys. A senior engineer at Harbin Standardisation Research Institute even called it a fabrication by the street vendor.

But hey, who needs facts and truth when you’ve got a viral video and some adventurous customers? One brave soul even asked the vendor if they should eat the ice while it was still hot. I mean, really? We’ve hit a new level of absurd here, folks.
And if you’re crazy enough to want to try this at home, good luck getting a recipe. The video doesn’t exactly lay out the steps in detail. But hey, no judgment here if you want to give it a try. I’ll stick to my hot dogs and leave the grilling to the real food.
You know, there’s something to be said for trying new things, but I think we can all agree that maybe we should draw the line at grilling ice.
