ICE Officers Nab Fugitive Illegal Immigrant in Dramatic Courthouse Chase

In a scene that could give any action movie a run for its money, federal immigration agents recently nabbed a fleeing illegal immigrant just moments away from the New Hampshire courtroom. The event unfolded on February 20 in Nashua, where Arnuel Marquez Colmenarez, a 33-year-old Venezuelan national, thought he could play a clever game of courtroom escape in the midst of facing charges for drunk driving, driving without a license, and failure to provide information after a crash. Spoiler alert: he didn’t get far.

CCTV footage captured Colmenarez bolting down a hallway, likely thinking he could outrun his legal troubles. Unfortunately for him (and let’s be honest, fortunately for the rest of us), he was intercepted by vigilant Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers faster than a dog on a squirrel. As the chaos unfolded, stunned onlookers, including an elderly gentleman who presumably just wanted to avoid a scene, found themselves in the middle of a real-life game of tag—with ICE as the indisputable victors.

Immediately following his tackle, Colmenarez was placed under federal custody and swiftly carted off to a detention facility in Texas. It’s hard to imagine he thought the legal system would take his attempted escape lightly, but some folks have a remarkable talent for underestimating the consequences of their actions. Clearly, attempting to flee during your arraignment is not the best plan, yet here we are.

Witnesses who were present described the scene as a whirlwind of confusion, which is ironic considering the simplicity of the situation: illegal immigrant tries to escape, gets caught. One woman reported a cacophony of shouting from the agents urging Colmenarez to stop running, a helpful tip one would hope should be common sense. However, as it turns out, shouting “Don’t run!” typically falls on deaf ears when the subject in question is, well, running.

ICE has made it clear that their mission was all about public safety and upholding immigration laws. Perhaps this is just one more indication that they should keep the heat on individuals like Colmenarez, who waltz into U.S. courthouses thinking they can dodge accountability. After this incident, they should be taking notes on how effective a well-timed legal pursuit really can be. Maybe this clown will get the message that running isn’t the best way to handle facing the music after you’ve made a series of less-than-stellar life choices.
