Penguin Random House and some authors, including John Green, are making a big stink about Iowa’s decision to ban books with sexual content from public school libraries. They’re so mad they filed a lawsuit against the state! These whiny authors are all up in arms over a new Iowa law that puts the kibosh on books with sexy stuff for all the way up to 12th grade, except for religious texts. It also says no to books about gender identity or sexual orientation for elementary school kids. It’s about time someone put a stop to this nonsense!
The lawsuit is trying to get a court to say that the law is “unconstitutional” and violates freedom of speech. But come on, these authors need to stop complaining and accept that Iowa is just trying to protect kids from inappropriate content. Governor Kim Reynolds knows what’s up. She says the law is all about shielding children from porn and sexually explicit stuff. And that’s something everyone can get behind, right?

This law has been in effect since the start of the school year, and it means classic books like The Color Purple, Native Son, and 1984 are banned from school libraries. Even books like The Fault in Our Stars and The Handmaid’s Tale are getting the boot. But hey, it’s all for the kids’ own good. We’ve got to protect their innocence!
And if that wasn’t enough, now the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa and Lambda Legal are also suing the state, claiming the law violates the rights of LGBT students. Give me a break! These groups need to understand that Iowa has every right to set standards for what kids can read in school. It’s not about discrimination; it’s about protecting our values.
So Penguin Random House may be throwing a tantrum, but at the end of the day, Iowa is standing strong to keep our kids safe from inappropriate content. It’s about time someone stepped up to protect our children from these harmful influences. Keep fighting the good fight, Iowa!
