A fresh case of election interference has emerged, courtesy of Iran, which seems to think that meddling in American democracy is just another Tuesday at the office. Mike Pompeo, the former Secretary of State and a loyal member of the Trump administration is sounding the alarm that without any pushback from the Biden White House, Iran is poised to “double down” on their digital hijinks during the election cycle.
The FBI recently confirmed that Iranian hackers managed to swipe sensitive information from Donald Trump’s campaign, which they then casually passed along to none other than President Biden’s team before he decided to take a hiatus from the 2024 race. Pompeo articulated a deep concern over how Iran seems to be playing favorites by backing Biden, raising serious eyebrows about the integrity of the electoral process under Biden’s watch.

He argued that the Biden administration has returned to Obama-era tactics of appeasement, effectively waving a white flag while Iran scurries closer to nuclear armament and influences our elections against Trump. It’s almost as if Biden and his team have transformed America’s stance into one of polite suggestion rather than robust opposition.
The former Secretary also mentioned that as technology evolves, so do the threats. The emergence of artificial intelligence and deepfakes only makes it easier for Iran to potentially sway tens of thousands of votes with their crafty techniques. While other nations are advised to be wary of their actions, Iran seems to take the lack of resistance from the Biden administration as an opportunity to operate with impunity, crafting a digital strategy that plays directly into the chaos of American electoral politics.
Pompeo’s assertions were supported by the alarming fact that emails sent to the Biden campaign contained bits ripped straight from stolen material belonging to Trump’s campaign. While the FBI has stated there’s no evidence that Biden’s team solicited or acknowledged these emails, one can’t help but wonder how many times such “coincidences” can occur without raising serious questions about impropriety. Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt is undeterred, insisting that this is clear evidence of Iran’s election meddling, urging both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to clarify whether they accessed the stolen information. The stage is set for yet another round of political theater, one where the stakes are nothing less than the integrity of the American electoral system itself.
