Senator Dave McCormack, a retired U.S. Army captain with a Bronze Star for his service during Operation Desert Storm, recently shared insightful updates regarding Operation Epic Fury. This military operation has been underway for about 15 days and has seen remarkable success according to the Senator. He emphasized that the focus has been on dismantling Iran’s missile and drone capabilities in the Middle East. Unfortunately, the recent tensions escalated when an Iranian drone was intercepted over the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but debris from the interception struck a building in Dubai that houses several American banks, causing significant damage.
The Senator explained that the American public can take pride in the results of the military operation. He highlighted the strategic blunder made by Iran, which has been launching attacks against Gulf allies like the UAE, a vital commercial hub allied with the United States. What’s impressive, McCormack noted, is the UAE’s success in intercepting a large percentage of these aggressive missile launches—around 90%—thanks in part to America’s advanced defense systems that have been shared with them. However, not all missiles have been intercepted, leading to unfortunate consequences for businesses in the area, particularly those American banks whose offices were affected.
Turning to domestic matters, the senator also addressed the need for additional funding for the Pentagon as they prepare a supplemental package. There is talk of allocating around $50 billion to replenish the country’s munitions stockpiles, an idea that McCormack firmly supports. He argues that the safety of American troops deployed abroad relies heavily on our ability to support them adequately in their efforts to neutralize ongoing threats, particularly from Iran. This isn’t just about foreign missions; he insisted that there is a pressing need for proper funding on the home front as well.
The senator raised concerns about the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its various branches like TSA and Secret Service not having sufficient funds to protect Americans. He criticized the lack of financing at a time when domestic threats are increasing, illustrating that securing the homeland is just as critical as overseas operations. With rising tensions and incidents of threats in various locations, including places of worship and public venues, Senator McCormack urged the necessity for a balanced approach in security funding.
Lastly, Senator McCormack took a strong stance in favor of the SAVE Act, highlighting the importance of ensuring every vote in elections is legitimate. Pointing to a recent incident in Pennsylvania where an individual voted illegally multiple times, he stressed that protecting election integrity is a bipartisan issue.
