Negotiations between the United States and Iran are heating up once again, and it seems the tension has reached a boiling point. As President Trump considers military options, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is sounding the alarm on the very real threat that Iran poses to both America and its allies. With a history of aggression, the Iranian regime is not exactly known for playing nice, and Rubio is making sure everyone understands just how serious this situation is.
Rubio made it clear that while the president prefers to work out diplomatic solutions, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a danger lurking. To add more fuel to the fire, Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton chimed in, expressing his disbelief in Iran’s ability to keep their word. With the Iranian regime refusing to allow American inspectors, there is little trust left to go around. Cotton pointed out that even the notion of “significant progress” in talks may have originated from the Iranians themselves, suggesting that their desperate need to negotiate only indicates how cornered they feel. The sentiment here is clear: the status quo can’t last forever, and the longer the U.S. waits, the worse things are likely to get.
