On a recent episode of MSNBC’s “The ReidOut,” the ever-eloquent Joy Reid took a stab at what she believes to be a lingering legacy of President Donald Trump: “lawfare” in the Department of Justice. This melodrama unfolded as Reid interviewed Rep. Ayanna Pressley, revealing some of the more curious narratives that the left likes to weave when it comes to Trump’s tenure. Apparently, he not only left behind a border crisis and the highest inflation rates in decades but also some “leave-behinds” for the DOJ to sort out.
Reid seems convinced that Trump’s final days in office were spent plotting a grand conspiracy that disproportionately targeted certain lawmakers, particularly those of the darker pigment variety. What wonderfully entertaining allegations from a network notorious for its advocacy rather than journalism. She pointed to cases like that of Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby, who faced scrutiny over actions that many believe were politically motivated—definitely not the face of a reliable prosecutor.
Rep. Pressley nodded along enthusiastically, agreeing that the conversation around such matters is crucial. However, she dodged the actual question about whether anyone should receive a pardon for these supposed crimes. In true Democratic fashion, it’s all about raising moral concerns without laying out a solid plan. Another classic case of avoiding accountability, while calling for it from the other side.

What Reid and Pressley really fail to recognize is that the so-called “lawfare” they speak of is nothing more than the natural ramifications of any administration’s policies after years of leadership, poor management, or both. Turning a critical government agency into a political plaything only seems to be a one-sided narrative, conveniently ignoring the way the DOJ is being weaponized under Biden’s watch—bringing forth a torrent of investigations into conservative individuals and groups.
As this cavalcade of leftist rhetoric rolls on, one can’t help but chuckle at their tales of conspiracy and injustice. The only thing more amusing than their claims of “lawfare” going awry is how out of touch they are with the actual workings of the DOJ. Perhaps instead of spinning yarns of political persecution, Reid and her guests should focus on the misappropriation of taxpayer dollars or the corruption festering within their own ranks. After all, it’s easy to claim victimhood when you’re safely ensconced in your liberal echo chamber.
