A New York judge is considering dismissing the case against former President Donald Trump, much to the chagrin of leftists who seem determined to keep this saga going. Judge Juan Merchan has acknowledged that Trump’s resounding electoral victory and a ruling from the Supreme Court regarding presidential immunity may mean trouble for the legal gymnastics that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has so zealously pursued.
Once set for a sentencing hearing in July after being convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels, the judge has decided to delay the proceedings until November 26. The political climate has shifted dramatically since then, with many legal analysts and talking heads speculating that this hearing could ultimately be destined for the court’s proverbial circular file. Trump’s legal team is bound to argue that as president-elect, he enjoys the same protections as a sitting president, making the case against him all the more flimsy.

The judge is reportedly targeting November 12 to decide whether the conviction should be thrown out, and many are betting that he can already hear the whispers of a judicial epiphany brewing. If Merchan makes the right call and tosses the conviction, then it will be lights out for any potential sentencing. Who would want the headache of imposing jail time on a president-elect, especially one with enough support to shatter the left’s dreams of a political triumph over him?
Trump, now 78, has been appealing this conviction while confidently leaning on the argument of presidential immunity backed by the Supreme Court. Legal experts have even suggested that the prospect of seeing him don a striped jumpsuit is dwindling faster than the Democrats’ chances in the next moonshot election. One former prosecutor went as far as to say that Merchan simply lacks the courage to put a former president behind bars, suggesting that Trump’s legal troubles might just evaporate as rapidly as they arose.
As if this saga needed more punchlines, the Biden Justice Department’s Special Counsel, Jack Smith, had his case involving classified documents thrown out by a federal judge this past August thanks to the same immunity ruling. Now, President-elect Trump is eager to tackle Smith’s second case concerning alleged election interference stemming from the January 6 Capitol riot. With promises to clean house and fire Smith on day one of his next presidency, it seems Trump is ready to reclaim his narrative and launch a full-scale counteroffensive against what can only be described as a theatrical production of political persecution. The Democratic desperation is real, and their attempts to thwart Trump’s comeback are crumbling like stale bread.
