In a recent judicial ruling, a federal judge has decided that the Biden administration’s Department of Homeland Security must step up and take care of illegal minors who are attempting to cross the southern border. The ruling specifies that these minors must be promptly provided with safe shelter, rather than being left in risky open-air sites near the border. Judge Dolly M. Gee from the United States District Court of Central California made it clear that these minors, despite not being formally processed yet, are under the custody of DHS and therefore deserve certain rights and protections.
Now, some might argue that these illegal minors shouldn’t be entitled to luxuries and should be swiftly sent back to where they came from. But let’s not forget, folks, that these are children we’re talking about. They deserve basic human decency and care, regardless of how they ended up in this situation. The liberal cry for open borders and endless compassion doesn’t mean much if they can’t ensure the safety and well-being of these vulnerable minors.

The lawyers representing the minors brought up a 1997 consent decree, called the Flores settlement agreement, which outlines standards for how immigrant children in government custody should be treated. They argue that these standards should be enforced for the children at the border. Meanwhile, the Justice Department’s attorneys tried to weasel their way out of responsibility by claiming the children weren’t technically in border patrol custody. Well, excuse me, but if they’re not in custody, then who’s responsible for making sure these kids are safe and sound?
It’s time for the Biden administration to stop playing political games and start prioritizing the well-being of these minors. This isn’t about politics; it’s about basic human decency. We can’t turn a blind eye to children in need just because it doesn’t fit a certain narrative. It’s time to uphold the rule of law and ensure that these young individuals are given the care and protection they deserve. Let’s put politics aside and do what’s right for these kids at the border.
