In yet another blow to Michael Cohen’s ongoing vendetta against former President Donald Trump, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan has ruled to not revive Cohen’s case. Cohen, who was convicted and sentenced to federal prison in 2018 for campaign finance violations and tax crimes, has been on a mission to hold Trump accountable for his prison sentence. However, his claims that he was jailed in retaliation for writing a tell-all book about his former boss have fallen on deaf ears.

The judges agreed with the lower court’s ruling that existing laws do not provide a damages remedy for claims that someone was jailed in retaliation for criticizing a president. This ruling marks the end of the line for Cohen’s case, much to the dismay of his legal team.
One of Trump’s current attorneys, Alina Habba, expressed her satisfaction with the ruling, stating, “Mr. Cohen’s lawsuit was doomed from its inception.” She added, “We will continue to fight against any frivolous suit aimed at our client.” Habba has been working for Trump since 2022, when the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago resort and private residence.
Cohen, who once served as Trump’s “fixer,” handling his family business both in and out of court, has been a frequent presence on CNN in recent years, where he has not been shy about portraying Trump as a threat to democracy. After his release from prison, Cohen released a memoir titled “Disloyal: A Memoir: The True Story of the Former Personal Attorney to President Donald J. Trump,” which he claimed was used by Trump to send him to prison.
Cohen’s efforts to take down his former boss have reached a dead end. Trump, for his part, continues to refer to Cohen as a “proven liar,” a title that Cohen has yet to shake off. As the legal battles between Cohen and Trump continue, it remains to be seen what the future holds for these two prominent figures.
