Kamala Harris Demands Aussie-Style Gun Grab: Will YOUR Rights Be Next?

Vice President Kamala Harris, known for her strong stance on gun control, is advocating for significant changes in national gun policies within the United States. Harris recently expressed support for Australia's gun control efforts in 1996, highlighting a disconnect with the values and rights of American citizens.

During an event at the State Department alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Harris utilized a tragic mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, as a catalyst for promoting stricter gun control measures. She contended that "gun violence has terrorized and traumatized so many of our communities in this country," while critics argue that the right to bear arms is a constitutional cornerstone.

Harris commended Australia's gun control policies without addressing the fundamental distinction between the two countries. Unlike the United States, Australia does not grant its citizens a legal right to gun ownership. In contrast, the United States has a long-standing tradition of safeguarding Second Amendment rights while also implementing measures such as background checks for firearm purchases, striking a balance between individual freedom and public safety.

Australia's gun control measures, initiated in the aftermath of highly publicized mass shootings in 1996, were not without controversy. The National Firearms Agreement, introduced at that time, banned specific firearm types and imposed stricter storage regulations for all firearms. Additionally, a mandatory gun buyback program was initiated, leading to the collection of 700,000 privately owned firearms. However, there is ongoing debate about whether these stringent measures actually reduced the overall crime rate in Australia.

It is not surprising that Harris, alongside other Democratic figures like Beto O'Rourke, is advocating for similar gun control policies within the United States. Critics argue that their focus appears to be on expanding government authority and limiting the rights of law-abiding citizens, rather than addressing the underlying causes of violence and crime. Advocates of the Second Amendment emphasize the importance of safeguarding this cherished right from what they perceive as potentially misguided and dangerous proposals.
