Vice President Kamala Harris recently took a seat for her first major interview since being tapped as the Democratic nominee, and the ensuing train wreck had conservatives collectively shaking their heads. Instead of owning up to the myriad issues plaguing America today, Harris played the blame game, pinning everything from the economy to border chaos on former President Donald Trump. It seems the vice president is taking notes from a classic Democrat playbook: deflect, mislead, and hope no one notices the train coming down the tracks.
In a pre-recorded segment on CNN, known for its propensity to lob nothing but softballs at Democrats, Harris was challenged with questions that somehow managed to miss the target. While speaking for an unimpressive 16 minutes and 29 seconds, she managed to avoid any serious accountability for the thousands of illegal immigrants streaming across the southern border under her watch. Instead, she bizarrely insisted that this “record-breaking” influx has some benefits—though what those benefits might be was left to the imagination, perhaps in line with her ever-elusive grasp on reality.

The questions prompted by Dana Bash were about as tough as a marshmallow. Yet, Harris’s performance might as well have been certified by the Guinness World Records for how excruciatingly awkward it was. Her claims that she and President Joe Biden have magically lowered inflation were as credible as a unicorn sighting, especially when one considers the price of a gallon of milk these days. As she touted her records, the only thing that became clearer is why her media appearances are treated like those old horror movies where the audience screams at the character not to go into the basement.
With the backdrop of a nation reeling from economic difficulty and border crises, the unfiltered reality of Harris’s responses showed she is not only out of touch but outright incompetent. Even left-leaning pundits couldn’t help but raise eyebrows at her refusal to address Biden’s mental health, shrugging off concerns while simultaneously dodging any meaningful introspection about her party’s leadership. All the while, she doubled down as the apologists cheered in the background, clearly hoping that some of her disingenuous sentiment would stick.
In a bit of poetic justice, it’s ironic that CNN, a network renowned for letting Democrats skate through interviews, faced backlash for its pitiful attempt to conduct journalism. Instead of grilling Harris, Bash became a mere prop for her carefully scripted platitudes, missing a prime opportunity to ask real, hard-hitting questions. Harris’s reluctance to debate her critics speaks volumes; when the mixed bag of lies and nonsense rolls off the tongue, the answer isn’t to engage openly but to hide behind the comfort of the sympathetic media.
The results of this press fiasco are precise: Kamala Harris’s political prowess is considerably lacking. Suppose this interview is any indicator of how she plans to engage with the American public. In that case, voters may want to brace themselves for a wild ride—or better yet, a solid candidate who actually knows what they’re doing. Harris’s performance will likely only solidify many conservatives’ convictions that, under her and Biden’s rule, the U.S. is heading into uncharted territory—where common sense is laid to waste amidst a sea of broken promises and misguided ideologies.
