The race for the 2024 election is shaping up to be a comedic spectacle, with Vice President Kamala Harris stepping into the spotlight after President Biden’s abrupt exit from the race. As Democrats scramble to rally around what can only be described as their party’s least popular star, the prospects for the left seem dimmer than the lights at an underground comedy club during an open mic night.
According to a recent survey of delegates by The Associated Press, Harris has garnered just enough support to claim the Democratic nomination, even with some loyal colleagues pleading for a different contestant—any contestant—on the ticket. Meanwhile, the smart money is still on former President Donald Trump, who boasts a robust 60 percent chance of soaring to victory in November. Harris, on the other hand, is trailing behind with a mere 38 percent likelihood. Sounds like someone forgot to run a campaign in the swing states that will decide the election.

Speaking of swing states, Trump is not just ahead in the polls; he’s absolutely crushing it in key territories. In North Carolina, he’s leading by a staggering 38 percent. Georgia? Trump is up by 22 points. Even in Nevada and Arizona, Trump continues to outperform Harris, reflecting a growing disdain for the Biden-Harris axis with each tick of the electoral clock. The numbers paint a grim picture for the Democrats and spotlight the undeniable reality: Trump is invincible in the battlegrounds that matter most.
Interestingly, Michigan, a state that Democrats are praying to keep in their hands, is leaning toward a 49-49 deadlock between Trump and Harris. Despite Biden’s slight win in 2020, the current political climate suggests voters are hitting the snooze button on the Harris campaign, especially considering that the woman herself has her eyes fixed on issues like abortion at a time when the economy and immigration rank as top concerns. Harris’s priorities appear significantly out of touch with voters, with just 16 percent of Michiganders considering women’s rights to be their pressing issue.
The jury is still out on how voters feel about Harris’s record linked to the Biden presidency—spoiler alert: not very favorably. The Senate Opportunity Fund’s latest findings reveal a whopping 68 percent of respondents believe her record mirrors Biden’s administration over the last four years. In addition, an astounding 66 percent agree that Harris is just a less charming version of Joe Biden. These numbers indicate that Democrats may as well bring out the figurative ‘Get Out of Jail Free’ cards because they’ve apparently inherited all of the baggage that comes with the man who just might be remembered as the most unpopular president in modern history.
As election day approaches, it looks like the Democrats are left holding a hot potato with Harris, while Trump edges ever closer to reclaiming his rightful place in the Oval Office. Whether Democrats will be able to backtrack and rewrite their narrative before it’s too late remains to be seen, but for now, it appears the 2024 election is shaping up to be a comedy of political errors, with the only winner likely being Trump—again.
