Kamala Harris’s Campaign Flounders After Attack on Gold Star Families

The recent week has proven to be a catastrophic misfire for Vice President Kamala Harris, culminating in an audacious attack on 13 Gold Star families that left her campaign looking reckless and desperate. It’s difficult to imagine how anyone could sink this low, but alas, Harris has made it her mission to outdo herself, apparently believing that throwing mud at grieving families would somehow refresh a floundering campaign.

A recap of the week reveals an absolute train wreck of events leading up to this. Harris started off pedaling nonsense about her ambitious presidential aspirations, following an initial wave of cheerful media support that quickly dissipated. With America grappling with soaring inflation, escalating crime, and a border crisis that would make even seasoned politicians queasy, citizens were looking for concrete leadership and vision. What they got instead was a barrage of empty platitudes and a vitriolic attack against former President Trump that failed to resonate. The result? Harris found herself anchored in a statistical tie against Trump that is only slightly better than her predecessor Hillary Clinton’s disastrous campaign numbers at the same point in time.

In a mind-boggling twist, she even managed to sabotage the debate rules that had been set in stone. Rather than show strength, Harris’s flurry of whining revealed just how out of touch she is, not to mention weak, making her look like one of the kids who yanks on the teacher’s shirt to complain that the schoolyard rules are unfair. When the dust settled, she came out the loser of a fight she instigated, cementing the narrative of her incompetence.

Then there was “McDonaldsGate,” a strange saga unfolding around the claim Harris repeatedly makes about her employment at a McDonald’s during college. This anecdote has somehow become a hallmark of her biography and campaign narrative, despite a glaring lack of evidence to support this career claim. Generic media outlets have done their best to sweep this under the rug, but for many, the question remains: Did she lie, or is she simply spinning another yarn as part of her politically motivated fairy tale?

Next came an embarrassing interview with CNN, where she had a full six weeks to prepare, yet still flubbed even the simplest of questions regarding her plans should she step into the Oval Office. Any seasoned candidate would have groaned over her performance, marked by uncertainty and an inability to articulate a coherent vision. Instead, she looked like an overgrown child thrown into a room full of adults, struggling to catch up. Her misstep about her “unchanging values” on divisive topics like open borders and defunding the police has now been wielded as lethal ammunition by the Trump campaign.

And finally, there was Saturday’s catastrophic Twitter blunder, where Harris decided to lash out at grieving Gold Star families, suggesting they were merely props in Trump’s political theatrics. It was a crass and callous move that backfired spectacularly, leaving her scrambling to recover in the face of public outrage. These families, mourning their fallen heroes due to decisions driven by Harris and Biden’s leadership failures, were understandably outraged, and they responded in the righteous fury that such disrespect deserves.

American voters can overlook missteps, but what they can’t abide is a leader belittling families who have sacrificed everything. Harris’s incompetency in the face of gravity this serious isn’t just appalling; it’s indicative of a campaign that appears to be rapidly sinking and grasping for a lifeline that has clearly already gone rusty and algaed. As the nation looks toward the polls, it’s plain to see that Harris’s diving approval ratings are a result of her sheer failure to connect with the realities facing American families—a reality that stands starkly juxtaposed against the sacrificial lives of those she so carelessly dismissed.
