The incessant cries from the left for unity and respect during the transfer of power have turned into nothing more than laughable pretenses. Just days after Donald Trump secured his place as President-elect, governors from California and Massachusetts wasted no time in announcing plans to actively undermine his agenda. Gavin Newsom wasted no time establishing a special legislative session aimed at preparing for a direct confrontation with Trump’s priorities, while Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey made it clear that she would use every trick at her disposal to defy the new administration on immigration issues.
But these two are just the tip of the iceberg. New Jersey’s Governor Phil Murphy and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker have eagerly joined the fray, rolling up their sleeves for a little leftist wrestling match. Pritzker acted as if he were slinging insults across the playground when he declared that attempting to enforce immigration laws would be akin to going through him. One can only hope he’s practicing his dodgeball skills, since he seems to think standing in the way of legitimate policy is a noble act. Meanwhile, Murphy vowed to “fight to the death” against any perceived affront to his state’s integrity from Washington, because nothing screams responsible governance like bloodcurdling threats.
Caught between offering platitudes about goodwill and vomiting insults against the incoming administration, these governors cannot decide who they really are or what they stand for. Murphy managed to spin two contradictory narratives in a single breath: while he stated his commitment to a peaceful transition of power, he simultaneously promised to resist any federal intervention in New Jersey. If the Democrats were Olympic athletes, they’d all take home gold medals in the art of doublespeak.

The uproar from these governors highlights just how out of touch the left remains with the American populace. After the recent election, the messaging from the electorate was crystal clear: the progressive policies of the last few years have driven this country into the ground. From rampant crime rates and inflation to the disastrous open-border policies, people are fed up with the left’s brand of governance. Yet, in a bizarre twist of irony, those very leaders, who claim to be representatives of the people, stand ready to fight Trump at every turn, even if it means trampling on the will of the voters.
This election served as a wake-up call for conservatives who are now more determined than ever to tackle the progressive agenda at the state level. The opponents of Trump are showing their true colors, reminiscent of the last outing for the former president. But one thing stands certain: Trump is not the same man he was four years ago; he has learned valuable lessons from the past. There’s a new sheriff in town who knows how to handle the leftist resistance, and he is ready to deal with these wannabe tyrants. The days of contradicting messages and empty threats are numbered, as the focus shifts toward rebuilding a country that works for every American, not just the liberal elites.
