The liberal softies in Washington, D.C. can’t even protect a high-end store from a gang of thieves armed with a fire extinguisher. The Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department was left red-faced after a December 17 robbery at the Chanel store in the upscale DCCityCenter. A gang of five armed with a fire extinguisher entered the retail store and set it off as a distraction while they made off with $250,000 worth of merchandise. If that’s not embarrassing enough, a security officer even fired a shot at the fleeing thieves, and it didn’t even stop them.

Believe it or not, this isn’t even the first time this Chanel store has been robbed in the same way. Back in February, it was hit by a flash mob that used a fire extinguisher the same way. That the store hasn’t beefed up its security since then is a sign of how ineffective D.C.’s government has been on crime.
This kind of smash-and-grab robbery is usually associated with California, where lax law enforcement and weak prosecution have made it all too common. There’s even been a series of robberies in Chicago. Until 2021, then-mayor Lori Lightfoot decided that it was retailers’ fault for not having enough security instead of, you know, blaming the criminals.
Now, current mayor Muriel Bowser is facing the wrath of D.C. residents as violent and property crime are up 40 percent and 25 percent, respectively, in 2023. Perhaps now she’ll come up with some kind of ridiculous excuse for why the government can’t keep high-end stores safe instead of, you know, actually addressing the problem. If not, voters might decide to give her the boot, just like Chicagoans did with Lightfoot.
