In response to the outcry over her decision to suspend gun rights in certain parts of her state, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham claimed that her actions were needed to address a health emergency. However, her explanations have failed to convince.
The governor has failed to explain how her actions violate the U.S. constitution, and she has blamed those calling for her impeachment instead. This is an example of how a politician can't handle their consequences.
In response to her political enemies, Lujan Grisham decided to ban residents of New Mexico from carrying concealed firearms. She said that she did so because others did not have a plan. But what would happen to the state's legislators if she had her way?
It's already illegal to shoot children. Having prosecutors enforce the law is the most effective way to reduce gun violence. Unfortunately, Lujan Grisham has been a supporter of soft-on-crime prosecutors, which contributes to the problem.
Regardless of whether or not other people have a plan, Lujan Grisham's actions violate the Constitution. She should be held accountable for violating the law, and her decision to suspend gun rights is yet another example of how a power-hungry politician uses children as pawns.
In New Mexico, residents have to vote Lujan Grisham out of office. She should be replaced by someone who will safeguard the people's constitutional freedoms.
