Mainstream Media Silent on Kabul Bombing Anniversary Ignoring Fallen Troops

On August 26, 2024, the world marked the unfortunate anniversary of a deadly suicide bombing at Kabul’s airport that took the lives of 13 valiant U.S. troops. This tragic event, a direct consequence of the Biden administration’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, was met with an incredible lack of acknowledgment from the mainstream media. While one would expect the morning news shows to pay tribute to these heroes, they instead opted for the classic ‘no comment’ approach.

The anniversary commemorated the horrid attack that not only claimed American lives but also resulted in the deaths of approximately 170 Afghans and injured more than 150 individuals. Isn’t it ironic that while the cable news channels kept the memory alive, ABC, CBS, and NBC decided to pretend that nothing happened? Talk about selective amnesia. Instead of featuring a segment honoring these brave soldiers who stood guard at Abbey Gate, these networks chose to sweep the anniversary under the rug, mimicking the deafening silence of President Biden and Vice President Harris—aside from a few perfunctory statements, of course.

President Donald Trump took a different approach. He chose to honor the fallen by visiting Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath alongside Marine Corporal Kelsee Lainhart, a survivor affected by the attack. This act of respect starkly contrasts with the radio silence from the Biden administration, which left many wondering where their commitment to honoring American sacrifice truly lies. After all, the optics of not showing up on such a significant day speak volumes about their priorities.

Meanwhile, while the morning news shows were busy discussing everything but the anniversary, various cable outlets made sure the tragedy did not go unnoticed. Fox Business Network’s Mornings with Maria, Fox & Friends on Fox News, and even Newsmax were among those who appropriately remembered the sacrifices made. Even the supposedly ‘nonpartisan’ CNN managed to mention the day, proving that it takes a commitment to the truth—even the inconvenient kind—to recognize what truly matters.

While the legacy media was busy pretending the anniversary of this tragic day didn’t exist, the difference in coverage is notable. With Trump honoring those who served, and cable networks stepping up when the big guys wouldn’t, it raises a question: who really stands for the Americans who make the ultimate sacrifice? Maybe it’s time for the mainstream media to do a little soul-searching and find the courage to face up to the realities surrounding the previous administration’s withdrawal and its devastating consequences.
