The saga of Karen Bass, Los Angeles’ mayor, just gets richer. Despite a laundry list of failures that would make even the most dedicated politician reconsider their career choices, Bass seems determined to solidify her position as a colossal flop. Whether it’s the absence of water in the fire hydrants, slashing the budget for the fire department, or funneling resources to the homeless while homeowners are left in the lurch, L.A. residents are getting a front-row seat to the debacle that is her administration.
The recent antics of pro-illegal immigration protesters blocking the 101 Freeway serve as a perfect demonstration of how out of touch Bass has become. This was not just any protest; it was reminiscent of a dystopian nightmare viewers might have encountered in more disturbing films. Protesters took to the freeway, completely disregarding the lives and livelihoods of thousands, waving signs that essentially called for the abandonment of our immigration laws, all while Bass maintained her silence. As if the situation couldn’t get any more absurd, she watched it all unfold without lifting a finger to rectify the chaos.
One wonders what exactly is going through Bass’s mind as she sat idly by. The protesters championed the idea of letting millions of undocumented immigrants stay in the country—an undertaking that has Joe Biden’s fingerprints all over it. However, these same individuals likely wouldn’t support trespassers storming the Capitol, yet curiously, they see no problem with violating the borders of the United States. Some might say this reflects a severe double standard that Bass seems more than willing to overlook.
The protest continued long enough that when the police finally decided to intervene, the protestors merely shifted to city streets, denying yet more Angelenos their freedom of movement. It’s almost comical—if it weren’t tragic. Amidst the chaos, protesters burned the flag of the very country they ostensibly want to call home, while refusing to acknowledge that any semblance of respect might go a long way in garnering sympathy for their cause. It’s like watching someone throw a tantrum in a candy store while insisting they just want sweets.

Even as the chaos escalated, Bass’s response seemed to mimic that of a child hiding behind a parent whenever trouble arises. She failed to step in when it mattered most, leaving onlookers to question if she had received a rather dubious “stand-down” order from a higher power. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump’s pledges to deport criminal aliens remain fresh in the minds of those battered by the consequences of lax border policies, with Border Czar Tom Holman citing a steep 93% drop in illegal crossings. If only the sanctuary cities would comply with federal authorities, they might prevent further chaos instead of contributing to it.
As Los Angeles flounders under the weight of its poor governance, one has to wonder what the citizens are thinking. If even Portland has taken a firmer stance against road shutdowns and public chaos, isn’t it time for Angelenos to reconsider their electoral choices? At this point, the question isn’t just if Bass is a dud—it’s whether L.A. is prepared to rise above the mismanagement plaguing them.
