In a bizarre twist that may have folks raising an eyebrow or two, MSNBC decided to pull the plug on “Morning Joe” this Monday. The catalyst? President Biden’s Sunday sermon from the Oval Office calls for civility and the left-wing network’s realization that their beloved hosts, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, might be part of the problem. This revelation came on the heels of an alarming attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania.
MSNBC appears to have developed some common sense, opting to replace the morning banter with breaking news coverage instead. According to reports, the decision was a calculated move to avoid any of the show’s rotating doors of 24-plus guests from spouting off something regrettable on live television. Seems like someone at MSNBC finally figured out that maybe, just maybe, giving a microphone to an endless stream of anti-Trump rhetoric might not be the best idea.

One can only imagine the frantic boardroom discussions that sidelined one of MSNBC’s marquee shows during such a critical time. With the Republican National Convention kicking off and political tensions peaking, benching Scarborough and Brzezinski is certainly unconventional. However, it’s clear the network would rather pre-empt potential commentary that could fuel the flames of division even further.
Predictably, some defend “Morning Joe” as though its absence from the airwaves is merely a typical preemption. But let’s not kid ourselves; this move reeks of a deliberate effort to keep the show’s notorious anti-Trump sentiment in check. The fact that MSNBC doesn’t trust its own team enough speaks volumes about the current state of liberal media.
So NBC and MSNBC have reluctantly admitted that their flagship morning show might be a tad too inflammatory for the present moment. Watching them scramble to ensure their programming doesn’t contradict Biden’s dreams of civility is almost humorous. Perhaps tomorrow, Joe and Mika will return, leashed and muzzled, ready to toe the new line. In the meantime, Americans get a respite from the usual morning show theatrics.
