The liberal agenda strikes again as Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, a Democrat from New Mexico, has signed into law two bills that restrict gun usage in the state. The governor made this move even after her previous attempt to limit the right to carry firearms in most public places was shot down. Pun intended.
House Bill 129, which forces law-abiding citizens to wait seven days before purchasing a firearm, and Senate Bill 5, which bans firearms within 100 feet of a polling place or ballot box, were both signed into law by the governor, along with two other bills that increased penalties for violent crimes. Because, you know, restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens is always the answer to crime, right? Wrong.

In her statement about the bills, Lujan Grisham claimed that this legislation strikes at the heart of issues that are keeping New Mexicans up at night. Or maybe the issues keeping them up at night are the government continually trying to take away their Second Amendment rights. Just a thought.
Let’s not forget that this move comes after Governor Grisham tried to suspend the right of open and concealed carry of firearms in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County through a public health emergency on gun violence. Thankfully, a federal judge shut that down, reminding the governor that she can’t just trample all over the rights of law-abiding citizens. Score one for the Second Amendment.
And here’s the kicker: these new laws are coming just in time for the state’s upcoming primary and general elections. It’s almost like the Democrats are using these restrictions to influence the outcomes of the elections. But no, they would never do that, would they? *wink wink*
Of course, Republican state Senate Minority Leader Greg Baca has been vocal in his criticism of these gun laws, calling them the removal of the constitutional rights of New Mexicans and attacking the rights of law-abiding citizens. It’s a good thing we have leaders like Baca who are standing up for the Second Amendment in the face of the liberal onslaught.
In conclusion, these new gun restrictions in New Mexico are just another example of Democrats steamrolling over the rights of law-abiding citizens in the name of their agenda. But as long as there are Republicans like Greg Baca who are willing to fight for the Second Amendment, the left’s attempts to infringe on our rights will continue to be met with resistance.
