Newsom Silent on China’s Human Rights: Is He in Xi’s Pocket?

Governor Gavin Newsom of California is in the hot seat for not addressing human rights abuses during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. When asked about it by reporters, Newsom defended his decision, saying that he can’t be everything to everybody all the time. Talk about that pressure! But come on, Governor, this is a pretty big deal. China has been detaining over a million Uyghur Muslims in reeducation camps in the Xinjiang region. That’s some serious human rights abuse right there. But China denies it, so I guess we should just take their word for it, right?

Instead of focusing on the human rights issue, Newsom is really diving into climate change. He’s all about that climate change stuff. Hey, Governor, I get it, climate change is important too, but can we at least acknowledge that there are other things going on in the world? Oh, and apparently fentanyl was also a big topic in his meeting with President Xi. So, forget about human rights abuses, let’s talk about the weather and drugs. Great priorities you got there, Governor.

Oh, and let’s not forget about Newsom’s side trip to Israel. Yep, he just had to make a stop there before his big China trip. While in Israel, he joked that he wished he was the President of the United States so he could start doing all those important leader things. Ha, ha, very funny, Governor. But seriously, maybe you should focus on the job at hand instead of cracking jokes. Just a thought.
