In a bizarre turn of events, New York City has decided to spend millions of dollars on cleaning services for migrants’ laundry. That’s right, folks, your hard-earned tax dollars are being used to clean the dirty clothes of people who have just arrived from the southern border.

According to reports, Democratic Mayor Eric Adams’ administration has already spent a whopping $11.6 million on these cleaning services, and there’s no telling how much more they plan to spend. In fact, an additional $23 million is tied up in contracts that include laundry processing, staffing, and security expenses. I don’t know about you, but that seems like a lot of money to be spending on laundry.
Unsurprisingly, many New Yorkers are not happy about this situation. Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossell expressed his frustration, stating, “Taxpayers are being taken to the cleaners. That’s a lot of dough to spend on laundry. We should be spending that money elsewhere. It’s one more reason the migrant crisis has to come to an end.”
Queens Councilman Robert Holden echoed these sentiments, saying, “We have to do our laundry. Migrants should have to go to the laundromat like the rest of us.” It seems like common sense to expect people to take care of their own laundry, but apparently, that’s too much to ask for in Mayor Adams’ New York.
To add insult to injury, the city did not even attempt to dispute the laundry costs. According to New York Councilwoman Gale Brewer, the cost of laundry ranges from $1.50 to $3 a pound. However, city officials claim that the average cost in the contracts is $2 a pound. Expensive indeed!
As if this weren’t outrageous enough, New York has already spent a whopping $2.26 billion on assisting migrants in the 2023 fiscal year. And get this, folks, the city is projected to spend a mind-boggling $12.2 billion by the end of next year to accommodate the influx of migrants. That’s billion with a b!
Mayor Adams has even had the audacity to request additional aid from the Biden administration to deal with the strain caused by the over 100,000 migrants that have arrived since spring 2022. But according to a recent poll, 64% of New Yorkers disapprove of the Biden administration’s handling of the migrant crisis in their city. It seems like the people of New York are fed up with having their resources drained.
In fact, approximately four in ten NYC residents actually support the construction of a border wall. Yes, you heard that right. Despite being a sanctuary city, there are still individuals who believe that building a border wall is the way to go. Perhaps they’ve finally realized that New York City’s resources are exhausted and that there’s a limit to how much they can handle.
In a strange twist, NYC distributed flyers at the border and in the city itself last July, encouraging migrants to go somewhere else. The flyer boldly stated, “New York City’s resources are exhausted. NYC is one of the most expensive cities in the world; you are better off going to a more affordable city.” It seems like they’re finally starting to see the light.
Sadly, the mayor’s office did not respond to requests for comment on this outrageous situation. It seems like they’d rather hide in the shadows than face the music. But we can’t let them off the hook that easily. It’s time to speak up, New Yorkers, and demand that your tax dollars be spent wisely. Enough is enough!
