After the Democrats got their clock cleaned in the recent elections, a predictable blame game has kicked into high gear. Vice President Kamala Harris, who faced off against President-elect Donald Trump, is experiencing the fallout of a party unwilling to accept its defeat with grace. The Democrats, who notably orchestrated President Joe Biden’s exit from the race back in July, now find themselves scrambling for answers, with Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi leading the charge in blame-shifting.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Pelosi pulled out the ol’ blame game card, asserting that the real problem was Biden’s inability to leave the stage sooner and not facilitating a prompt primary to replace him. It seems the Speaker believes Biden endorsed Harris too quickly, dampening the chances for other contenders to rise. However, that’s a curious take considering the electoral cascade that followed, as her party floundered and Republicans not only won the Electoral College but also regained control of the Senate. Meanwhile, control of the House remains in the GOP’s capable hands.
Pelosi, in her unyielding optimism, was seen wandering through the halls of denial while the rest of the party stood aghast. Despite the overwhelming evidence of a disastrous night for the Democrats, she remained adamant that the upcoming election cycles were still prime opportunities for her party. With the uncanny ability to grasp reality through a funhouse mirror, she concocted a narrative that suggested the Democrats were on the cusp of seizing the House, even as the numbers leaned heavily against her.
Her interview took a particularly dizzying turn when she liberally reinterpreted the shocking electoral rejection her party faced. While everyday Democrats grapple with their political bruises, Pelosi donned her cheerleader outfit and insisted that the party still had momentum, claiming that this past election does not equate to a party-wide failure. Although she was confronted with hard evidence of voters fleeing from Democratic candidates, she dismissed the notion that her party had abandoned the working-class. Ironically, this disconnect illustrates exactly why those very voters turned their backs on the Democrats in droves.
Pelosi’s comments became even more absurd when discussing the factors that swayed voters towards Trump. She pointed to cultural issues as the roots of despair for her party, linking guns, religion, and social issues as decisive elements in this political theater. Yet, one has to wonder how she squares this with the fact that her party has continually marginalized the values and concerns of traditional American families, further distancing themselves from potential voters.
Pelosi not taking it well: “I don’t even want to talk about him.”

The reality is, as more and more of Pelosi’s party members fall under the spell of progressive ideals, the average American, particularly those in the working-class, appears to be tuning out the symphony of the Democratic elite. Voters are looking for authentic representation—not the muddled musings and abstract theories espoused by those who feel disconnected from the everyday struggles of American families.
In the grand scheme of a party that seems to be reeling from internal chaos, Pelosi’s comments reveal an alarming lack of introspection. It’s as if she and her colleagues are living in a parallel universe where they are somehow still winning, despite the resounding attacks from the electorate. If this spectacle continues and the Democrats remain deluded about their standing among voters, they might just find themselves deep in the political wilderness with no GPS in sight.
