In California, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, has been served with a subpoena in relation to a third-party criminal case. The House scribe disclosed the information on the House floor, without furnishing any particulars regarding the case's nature.

Pelosi, who jokingly refers to herself as "speaker emerita" (whatever that means), formally notified the House via the registrar. She issued the following statement: "This is to formally notify you, in accordance with rule eight of the rules of the House of Representatives, that I…have been served with third-party subpoenas by the prosecution and the defendant to produce documents in a criminal case in the Northern District of California United States District Court."
Pelosi has presumably decided that she will acquiesce to the subpoenas to the extent that they demand the disclosure of non-privileged information, subsequent to consulting with the Office of General Counsel (because who doesn't need an army of attorneys on standby?). She is so kind as to comply.
Pelosi's office naturally declined to comment on the circumstance; after all, they had no reason to seek clarification. The riveting excitement that greets us in those remarks is palpable.
