However, there are noticeable partisan differences when it comes to support for Israel. Young people, Democrats, and liberals are less likely to express a clear preference, with many of them saying they are “not sure” whom they support. This lack of clarity is concerning, as it shows a lack of understanding and knowledge about the conflict.
On the other hand, older Americans, Republicans, and those who voted for former President Donald Trump in 2020 overwhelmingly support Israel. It seems that conservative values align more closely with support for Israel, while liberal and progressive ideals are causing confusion and hesitation.
It is clear that President Joe Biden has not been able to rally his fellow Democrats to support Israel as strongly as he claims. Even among Biden voters, a plurality says their sympathies lie with both sides equally. This raises questions about Biden’s leadership and ability to bring unity and clarity to the situation.
Furthermore, there is a concerning lack of awareness about the role of Hamas in the conflict. Many Americans, especially young people and Democrats, do not recognize that Hamas is responsible for the recent terrorist attacks. This lack of knowledge is alarming and shows a need for better education and awareness about the complexities of the situation.
It is also worth noting that while a majority of Americans believe Hamas is deliberately targeting Israeli civilian areas, there is still a significant percentage who are unsure or do not believe this to be the case. Conservatives overwhelmingly believe it is “very important” to help our ally Israel, while liberals are more likely to say they are unsure or believe it is important to support aid to Palestinians. This discrepancy shows a difference in priorities and values between the two political ideologies.
