A planned demonstration near the Capitol this weekend seeks to convince Congress to ignore the will of the people and not certify the results of the election that saw President Trump emerge victorious. Yes, that’s right. It seems that some folks are not quite ready to accept that Trump won both the popular vote and an impressive 312 electoral votes, and they’ll be out in full force to pitch their case that Vice President Kamala Harris, who actually lost votes in 45 states and Washington, D.C., should be given a leg up.
The group behind this spectacle is humorously dubbed “14th Now,” named after the third section of the 14th Amendment. Apparently, these protesters believe that Trump’s actions during the events of January 6th, 2021, equate to an “insurrection” that should bar him from holding office. Conveniently overlooking a recent Supreme Court ruling confirming that Trump did not violate this amendment, the “14th Now” crew seems determined to paint him as a disqualified rebel. It’s almost as if their political philosophy has taken a detour through irony.
While the back-and-forth between Congress and this protest is set to unfold, one has to wonder how many of those protesting even recognize that Trump’s actions on that fateful day were more about standing up for election integrity than any sort of insurrection the left would love to spin. Instead of advancing a coherent argument, this movement appears to be all hat and no cattle, relying on catchy signs that demand Congress uphold the 14th Amendment while ignoring the real results of the election.

The plan for the protest is as ambitious as it is misguided, featuring gatherings at notable locations around the Capitol area over three days. Starting at Union Station, moving to the Supreme Court, and concluding between the Capitol and the Supreme Court right before Congress casts its certification votes, the protesters are ready to make traffic a nightmare. One can only imagine how those commuting to work will feel about having their routes disrupted by a rally that’s ultimately trying to claw back something that’s already decided.
This theatrical performance could be both entertaining and frustrating for onlookers. As Congress prepares to affirm the results, the “14th Now” movement illustrates just how far some are willing to go to deny the reality of the election outcome, all while trying to paint their agenda as a crusade for legitimacy. In the end, the only thing this protest is likely to achieve is making headlines for all the wrong reasons while the American people are left shaking their heads in disbelief.
