Republicans Push Contempt Resolution for AG Garland Amid Fiery Debates

A fierce battle of words erupted between Democrats and Republicans on Thursday as Republicans pushed forward with a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress.

The dispute kicked off when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia, questioned whether any Democrats on the committee employed the daughter of one of the judges overseeing former President Donald Trump’s legal cases. This led to a heated exchange with Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Missouri.

The confrontation escalated as other lawmakers joined the fray, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez condemning Greene’s comments and calling for her words to be taken down. The situation further intensified when Greene refused to apologize and challenged Ocasio-Cortez to a debate, leading to a call for Greene’s words to be stricken from the record.

The tension continued to escalate, culminating in a verbal altercation between Rep. Crockett and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, which resulted in the use of profanity and insults. Despite the chaos and disorder, the Committee ultimately passed a resolution to hold Attorney General Garland in contempt for his refusal to provide audio recordings of President Joe Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur.
