In a world where it seems like everyone is joining the “420-friendly” bandwagon, a small group of courageous conservatives is bravely standing up against the tidal wave of marijuana legalization. Leading the charge is Senator James Lankford, a Republican from the great state of Oklahoma. While most of Congress seems to have their heads in the clouds when it comes to marijuana, Senator Lankford is a voice of reason, using facts and common sense to rain on their parade.
Senator Lankford recently put a stop to a bill that would have allowed the Department of Veterans Affairs to research the use of marijuana for PTSD. You know, because what our veterans really need is more mind-altering substances. Lankford believes that marijuana has been “opened up” without any significant regulation, and he questions why we would want to do more of something that is causing cultural decay and legal chaos. It’s refreshing to see someone in Congress actually thinking about the consequences of their actions.
Not only did Senator Lankford successfully block the PTSD bill, but he also rallied 14 lawmakers to write a letter to the DEA, urging them to reject the recommendation to reschedule marijuana. This man is a true hero, fighting against the ever-growing push to normalize drug use. And let’s not forget about Representative Pete Sessions, who introduced a companion bill in the House. These conservatives are a force to be reckoned with.

Of course, there are always a few weak links in the conservative chain. Some lawmakers, like Representative Buddy Carter, are in favor of using marijuana for medicinal purposes but draw the line at recreational use. It’s a bit of a slippery slope, though, isn’t it? Once you start down that path, where does it end? Next thing you know, we’ll have people lighting up on the street corners like it’s no big deal. We must stay steadfast in our opposition to any form of marijuana use.
While it may seem like the wave of marijuana legalization is unstoppable, there is still hope. Senator Lankford and his band of courageous conservatives have proven that there are still some voices of reason in Congress. We must support and encourage them as they fight to protect our nation from the harms of drug use. Because when it comes to marijuana, just say no!
