Mark Robinson, a candidate for governor of North Carolina, recently outlined his plans for the state if elected in November. Notably, Robinson has received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump, who has described him as “Martin Luther King on steroids.” During his speech at the convention, Robinson defended Trump and criticized the media’s focus on the former president’s legal troubles, arguing that the Democratic Party’s failures should be the primary concern. Furthermore, the convention featured speeches by Eric Trump and Lara Trump, who celebrated the evolving direction of the Republican Party as a whole.
Robinson’s tenure as lieutenant governor has been marked by controversy, with critics citing his disparaging comments towards the LGBT community, his use of anti-Semitic tropes, and remarks viewed as misogynistic. Despite this, his focus on conservative values and commitment to enacting change in North Carolina government has resonated with Republican supporters.
