Ron Klain Blames Donors Democrats for Biden Withdrawal Urges Support for Kamala Harris

Ron Klain, the former chief of staff to President Joe Biden, has taken a break from the political merry-go-round to lay the blame for Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race directly on the shoulders of donors and Democratic lawmakers. In a rather theatrical post, Klain urged the Democratic Party to rally behind Vice President Kamala Harris, who now faces the task of salvaging a party that appears more divided than a couple arguing over Netflix choices.

In his passionate appeal, Klain expressed concern about the demise of the only candidate who has ever beaten Donald Trump. This claim is as juicy as it is debatable considering Trump himself has beaten many Democrats in the past. Yet, Klain insists that it’s time to dispense with “political fantasy games.” Apparently, the fantasy here isn’t the notions of policy changes or unifying the party but rather the idea that Kamala Harris can lead Democrats to victory based on her stellar track record of, well, existing.

The urgency of his statements increased following Biden’s announcement that he’d be stepping back from a second term—a decision that was made quicker than one could say “failing poll numbers.” Biden noted that while seeking re-election was on his agenda, prioritizing the party and the nation meant he would instead focus on his current duties until he hands the presidency over to Kamala, or more likely, to whoever can find the Oval Office on the map.

In a condescending nod to party unity, the soon-to-be former president gave a heartfelt endorsement to his vice president, claiming she’s the most qualified candidate for the nomination. The irony is rich considering that many Democrats are scratching their heads about Harris’s past campaign prowess which was as captivating as watching paint dry—on a wall that never seems to dry in the first place. But hey, it’s all about optics, right?

The Democratic Party might find itself in an even more precarious position than before, trying to unite around Harris’s brand of leadership, which has been marked by gaslighting rather than policy achievements. Klain’s call to arms highlights the internal strife the party battles. With party insiders clamoring to push Harris forward, they seem to forget that what’s left of the Democrat base has grown increasingly disillusioned. As they say, good luck getting a cat to swim. With an election year looming, one has to wonder if Harris’s unique ability to energize the base stems more from the great outdoors than from her speeches. It might be time for Democrats to start looking for someone new—preferably someone who doesn’t engage in questionable word salads.
