In a move that surprised absolutely no one, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida threw his support behind former President Donald Trump for the 2024 election. Rubio, who is clearly vying for a spot on Trump’s good side, made his announcement just one day before the Iowa caucus, hoping to gain some last-minute attention and possibly a pat on the back from the former president.
This decision puts Rubio in line with his fellow Florida senator, Rick Scott, who endorsed Trump back in November. It seems that Florida’s senators have decided to pass on endorsing their own governor, Ron DeSantis, who has been gaining popularity among conservatives across the country. But why support a competent governor when you can hitch your wagon to a former reality TV star instead?

Rubio wasted no time in singing Trump’s praises, listing off his supposed achievements under the former president’s administration. He claimed that only Trump could “fix the disaster Biden has created,” conveniently ignoring the fact that Biden has only been in office for a few months and had to clean up the mess left behind by Trump and his cronies.
It’s clear that Rubio is just another politician trying to ride the coattails of Trump’s misguided populism. He failed miserably in his own bid for the presidency in 2016, dropping out after coming in second place in his own state’s primary. And now, instead of supporting someone like Nikki Haley, who has a real chance of appealing to a broader range of voters, Rubio has decided to throw his lot in with a divisive and controversial figure like Trump.
But Rubio isn’t the only one falling in line behind Trump. The former president has received endorsements from numerous other top Republicans, including former presidential candidate and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum. It’s disheartening to see so-called conservative leaders abandoning their principles and embracing a man who cares more about his own ego than the well-being of the American people.
In the end, Rubio’s endorsement of Trump is just another example of the sad state of today’s Republican Party. Instead of promoting ideas and policies that will move our country forward, they are content to cling to the divisive rhetoric and failed leadership of the past. It’s no wonder that Trump has a massive lead in the polls – it seems that the GOP has surrendered its principles in favor of blind loyalty to a man who never had the best interests of the American people at heart.
