Schumer, Jeffries Slow Biden Nomination Amid Internal Discord

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, both hailing from the deeply blue state of New York, led the charge to stall the acceleration of President Joe Biden’s nomination. It seems not all is well within the Democratic ranks, as the supposed support for Biden’s candidacy has hit a few roadblocks courtesy of his own party leaders.

Publicly, Schumer and Jeffries have smiled and cheered about Biden’s candidacy, especially since his lackluster debate performance left many wondering if he even knew what day it was. But behind closed doors, it’s a different story. According to sources spilling the beans to the Wall Street Journal, these two power players have been rather busy throwing wrenches into the gears, delaying any rush to secure Biden’s nomination. It’s almost as if they have a sneaking suspicion that good ol’ Joe might not be the horse to bet on in the 2024 race.

The Democrats have been bickering among themselves about whether to fast-track Biden’s nomination before the upcoming August convention. The strategy behind this was pretty transparent: lock Biden in as the nominee and shut down any murmurings of replacing him with someone who might actually remember his stance on major issues. But alas, these dreams of a swift nomination have been dashed, partly thanks to the behind-the-scenes maneuvers of Schumer and Jeffries.

On Wednesday, in what can only be described as a stroke of internal Democratic drama, the Democratic National Committee waved the white flag. They announced that the nomination process would not be sped up, leaving Biden twisting in the political wind for a bit longer. The DNC tried to save face with some high-minded rhetoric about tradition and public meetings, but everyone knows they are just trying to buy time to figure out what to do with their aging puppet.

And in case there wasn’t enough chaos in Washington, the plot thickened with another twist. Attention was momentarily grabbed by the dramatic news of an assassination attempt on the former President Donald Trump. But as if grabbing popcorn for the next act, Democrats, and Americans alike were pulled back to the Biden saga when Representative Adam Schiff, the darling of dubious investigations, publicly called for Biden to step down. Who could have seen that coming? The 2024 cycle is shaping up to be a popcorn-worthy circus, and the Democratic Party might want to think twice before pointing fingers at anyone else’s political dysfunction.
