After a lengthy and seemingly fruitless dance with the Secret Service, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has found himself in a precarious situation following the suspension of his presidential campaign. Despite having spent months lobbying for protection amidst security threats, the moment he aligns himself with Donald Trump, the agency decides he no longer requires their services. A curious twist in the world of politics: when one jumps on the Trump train, apparently, the Secret Service says, “You’re on your own.”
The withdrawal of protection came swiftly after Kennedy announced he was suspending his campaign, a move many are interpreting as a strategic pivot rather than an outright withdrawal. President Biden had initially granted him Secret Service protection following attempted violence against Trump. After all, the last thing they want is a Kennedy giving the Trump campaign a shot in the arm.

Given Kennedy’s history of being subject to threats—evidence was reported of 34 separate incidents—he undoubtedly stands in more need of protection than ever, especially now that he has publicly endorsed the former president. One could argue that the left is likely to unleash their most deranged activists on anyone who dares to embrace the Trump agenda, and Kennedy has now painted a target on his back. The backstage drama of political maneuvering has now turned into a personal safety concern.
Although he has suspended his campaign, Kennedy intends to remain on the ballot in various states, presumably hoping to siphon off votes for Trump. The intricacies of campaign protections certainly raise eyebrows here—once a candidate “suspends” rather than formally withdraws, they still retain their status as candidates and the right to vote for them exists. His dedication could indeed complicate matters for the Democrats, who would rather not see any rallying of support for Trump from the Kennedy wing.
It’s worth noting that the Secret Service itself has been under a microscope lately, especially after the audacious assassination attempt against Trump. The events at a recent rally revealed severe lapses in security that have many questioning the agency’s current state of effectiveness. Given these issues, perhaps Kennedy should consider investing in private security, a choice that might provide a more reliable shield against the oncoming radical backlash.

One thought stands out: nothing infuriates the left quite like a member of the Kennedy family cozying up to Trump.
