Senate Slams Hamas, Antisemitism Infects Campus

In a much-needed show of support for Israel and Jewish Americans, the Senate has passed a resolution condemning the terrorist group Hamas and the rising tide of anti-Semitism on college campuses across the nation. This resolution, introduced by the brilliant Senate mind of Sen. Josh Hawley, passed with a resounding voice vote, sending a clear message that American lawmakers stand firmly against the vicious attacks by Hamas and the spread of anti-Semitism.

The resolution does not hold back in its condemnation of Hamas, highlighting the barbaric atrocities committed by the group. From the targeted killings to the rape and mutilation of innocent civilians, including defenseless infants, Hamas has shown itself to be a savage and bloodthirsty organization. It is time we hold them accountable for their heinous actions.

The urgency of this resolution is underscored by recent events at George Washington University, where anti-Semitic messages were projected onto the school’s library. Messages such as “Free Palestine From the River to the Sea” and “Glory to Our Martyrs” clearly demonstrate the dangerous anti-Israel sentiment harbored by some individuals on college campuses. These messages, thankfully shut down by the police, only serve to perpetuate violence and hatred against the Jewish state.

Sadly, the incidents at George Washington University are not isolated events. Jewish students at Cooper Union in New York City have faced harassment and intimidation as pro-Palestinian demonstrators pounded on the doors of the school’s library and spewed anti-Semitic statements. Even Harvard University student groups have shamefully decided to blame Israel for the terrorism perpetrated by Hamas.

One particularly disturbing example is Ryna Workman, the former president of New York University School of Law’s Student Bar Association. In a shocking newsletter, Ms. Workman expressed her support for Palestinians in their “resistance against oppression.” She even went so far as to vandalize posters of missing Israelis, a disgraceful act that shows a complete lack of respect for human life.

Thankfully, the Senate resolution unequivocally denounces the outrageous terrorist attacks by Hamas and the repugnant rhetoric of anti-Israel, pro-Hamas student groups. It emphasizes Israel’s right to exist and defend itself and recognizes the right of Jewish Americans to safety and security. The resolution sends a strong message of support for Israel and calls on the U.S. government to fully back and defend the Jewish state.

As the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues to escalate, it is imperative that we stand with our allies and condemn those who support terror and promote anti-Semitism. The Senate resolution is a step in the right direction, but more must be done to combat this growing problem. Let us unite in our support for Israel and the fight against anti-Semitism on our college campuses.
