Senators push for the release of Americans detained in Turks and Caicos over ammunition laws

Because ammunition was found in their luggage, five Americans were taken into custody in Turks & Caicos. Bryan Hagerich, an American in custody since February, is a resident of Pennsylvania. Politicians attempting to free these Americans from custody include Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman.

Along with Representatives Guy Reschenthaler of Pennsylvania, Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma, Michael Cloud of Texas, and Bob Good of Virginia, Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma was part of the legislative delegation attempting to secure the release of the American detainees.

Despite not intending to break the law, the Americans now face a lengthy prison sentence. In handling their case, Senator Fetterman is pleading with the court to be forgiving. After being held since last winter, Bryan Hagerich, who was facing a 12-year jail term, was allowed to go back home. He was given a 52-week suspended prison sentence and a $6,700 fine before being freed.

Bryan Hagerich was detained in the Turks & Caicos Islands; his family is happy he could go home. The legislators are seeking for similar terms of release for the other prisoners.
