Recent developments in the attempted assassination of former President Trump have raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of the Secret Service. Footage from the incident has emerged, and much like a disastrous magic show, the Secret Service seems to have made themselves disappear from the narrative at a critical moment. Cellphone videos recorded by witnesses during the shooting reveal a baffling lack of response from the very agency tasked with protecting the former commander-in-chief.

The shocking footage shows the would-be assassin, Thomas Crooks, darting across a roof while Trump was addressing a crowd below. Despite the apparent chaos, the Secret Service appears curiously absent. It’s almost as if they had many important meetings on their calendars that they simply could not reschedule, leaving everyone else to fend for themselves. One victim, James Copenhaver, was shot twice but fortunately survived to tell the tale, which raises the haunting question: how could this have happened?
Senator Chuck Grassley has been relentless in his pursuit of answers, documenting the reactions of law enforcement as the situation unfolded. Yet, rather than owning up to their failures, the Secret Service seems to be playing a game of hide-and-seek with vital information. Grassley’s requests for transparency have been met with resistance from Alejandro Mayorkas, the impeached head of the Department of Homeland Security. It’s as if he’s taken a cue from the Secret Service’s lack of accountability.

Adding to the circus, a video shows police officers with weapons drawn gazing up in confusion at the unprotected roof, giving the impression they were as shocked as everyone else about the lackluster security measures in place. One witness, known as Dave Stewart, even captured this moment on his phone, raising the speculation that maybe the police had been better on the lookout than the Secret Service. Only time will tell if a career in security is in Stewart’s future.
As the videos continue to flood in and paint a clearer picture of this disturbing event, one can’t help but wonder if the Secret Service would benefit from a little competition. Perhaps the former president should consider hiring outside security forces like Erik Prince’s team for future events. After all, when it comes to protecting Trump, it seems the Secret Service is on a noticeably long coffee break. Transparency and accountability seem to be the real victims here as the former president’s safety hangs in the balance, along with the agency’s already tarnished reputation.
