The chaos at the southern border has escalated to a point where describing it as merely a crisis seems like a profound understatement. Since taking office in January 2021, Joe Biden has rolled back many of the effective Trump-era border security policies, effectively opening the floodgates to millions of illegal immigrants. This influx includes individuals from various corners of the globe—places such as Syria, Somalia, China, and Iran—most of whom have entered the country without undergoing proper screening or vetting. While not all newcomers are criminals, it is undeniable that some individuals pose serious threats to American society.
A recent report from the House Judiciary Committee highlighted the disturbing realities facilitated by the current administration’s lax immigration policies, illustrating the case of one particularly notorious illegal alien, Daniel Hernandez-Martinez. This individual was released into the United States by the Biden administration in early 2023, without any legal justification for his stay. Shortly after his release, Hernandez-Martinez embarked on a spree of criminal activity in New York City, racking up at least 22 offenses within a mere six months. His reputed ties to the Tren de Aragua gang and a notable criminal record suggest that the problem of illegal immigration is not just a matter of numbers, but one of public safety.

Hernandez-Martinez, a Venezuelan national, managed to create chaos in a short time frame. His criminal activities included random assaults on civilians and police officers, thefts, and threats with weapons such as a knife. Instances of his behavior included attacking innocent bystanders, assaulting officers, and engaging in petty theft, completely underscoring the failure of border enforcement. The absence of his removal from the country despite such a criminal record is a glaring example of how the current policies enable lawlessness.
The ramifications of these open-border policies extend beyond individual cases. The current immigration strategy presents challenges not just for the United States but for the entire Western world, as nations scramble to control their borders amid rising crime rates and security threats. Shockingly, alongside the influx of criminals like Hernandez-Martinez, at least 99 individuals on the Terror Watch List have been released into the U.S. These are serious concerns that demand immediate attention and action from lawmakers.
It’s clear that Hernandez-Martinez should have never been allowed to remain in the country after his initial encounter with law enforcement. A straightforward solution would be to enforce immediate deportation for anyone caught in the U.S. illegally, particularly after they commit crimes. If a country refuses to accept its citizens back, then the U.S. should send them packing on a one-way flight, complete with a U.S. Air Marshal to ensure they reach their destination. This no-nonsense policy would deter future violations and bolster national security.
As the November elections draw near, the ramifications of these policies must not be forgotten. The current administration, with its open-border agenda championed by figures like Kamala Harris, presents a clear and present danger to American citizens.
